Barriers and Problems of Women Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship for women takes into account gender-related barriers and problems faced by female business. These include :
1. Multiple roles. It is women who have to carry out the tricky balancing act between commitment to the family and demands of work and business. Some studies show a positive correlation between business success and marital failure.
2. Failure to grow their business. Related to multiple roles, women are reluctant to grow in business, preferring the ease and simplicity of a business operation employing a few workers and producing one or two products and serving a narrow market. With their manifold responsibilities, they are afraid of the demands and responsibilities of growth.
3. Lack of credibility. Male entrepreneurs automatically enjoy credibility. Women have to prove their competence and sincerity before they are taken seriously. Women also find it harder to get accepted in leadership and management roles.
4. Social barriers. Related to credibility problems, women are constrained when dealing and interacting with male employees, suppliers and business associates. Socializing, which often promotes business negotiations and networking can be a problem to women.
5. View of competition. Women tend to view business with parochial mindset even as the rest of the world has turned global in terms of marketing, product design and business cooperation.
